The genre-fluid style of Senegambian Papa Mbye displays his varying influences, which includes late Senegalese artist N’dongo Lo, Frank Ocean, and the Twin Cities DIY scene. The 23-year-old talent and producer takes a collaboration-first approach to art. He’s helped produce interdisciplinary gallery shows, and frequently pulls in collaborators to and shape his records—all of which earned Papa Mbye a spot at First Ave’s Best New Bands show in 2022. Rounding out the lineup are Mike Kota, and RIOTGRRRLDARKO.
