Songwriter James McMurtry rolls into town at the Turf Club tonight. Fans of literate, Americana with a little grit will be right at home with McMurtry’s tunes, including those from 2021’s The Horses and the Hounds. Characteristically character-driven, the album finds McMurtry in fine form once again. Like fellow Texas troubadour Alejandro Escovedo (who was just in town), he is known for his regular sets at Austin’s Continental Club, which makes the Turf a perfect St. Paul sister bar tonight.
