Film Premiere for Kitchen Dance

THURS. 3/16 6:30 PM. Free.
How many steps do you take in your kitchen? A conceptual short dance film inspired by the icon of modernist domestic architecture—Mia’s Frankfurt Kitchen period room, an invention which sought to minimize work movement in order to free up women—Kitchen Dance explores the multidimensional lives of women and their work through modern movement. Minneapolis–based filmmaker Maribeth Romslo used a 2019 grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board to produce a conceptual short film set in a simulacrum of Mia’s Frankfurt Kitchen and filmed six dancers using the set in new and energetic ways. Director Romslo, choreographer Zoé Emilie Henrot of Ballet Co. Laboratory, set designer Tom Burgess, and Mia’s Head of Exhibition Planning and Strategy Jennifer Komar Olivarez will participate in a Q&A about the film after the screening.
