The Surly Festival stage continues its aughts indie band tribute with the iconic Death Cab for Cutie, now twenty-five years- and 10 albums- old. In between their highly beloved records, the band has engaged in several unexpected projects, from a collaboration with Chance the Rapper to frontman Ben Gibbard’s soothing, levity-laced home studio streams at the start of the pandemic. Their eleventh album, Asphalt Meadows, just dropped this month. Based on the single they released in advance of the album, it will deliver the signature melancholy and melodic style that loyalist fans crave. The moody sounds of local legends Low join for an opening set that would be a worthy standalone show.
