Director Edward Yang won the Best Director award at the Cannes Film Festival in 2000 for Yi Yi, which follows the everyday struggles of three generations of the Jian family in Taipei. Also written by Yang, the movie received scores of accolades, including this sterling summation from the late, great Roger Ebert: “Only rarely is a film this observant and tender about the ups and downs of daily existence.” This screening is in Mandarin with English subtitles.
