The Minnesota Original Music Festival

MON-SUN. 7/18-7/24. Free.

Musicians from all across the state are coming together for what could end up being one of the biggest music festivals in Minnesota next week. For its debut, the Minnesota Original Music Festival will host a variety of events throughout the week including public events like group yoga, workshops for both aspiring and established musicians, open mics, jam sessions and, of course, a giant music festival.

One of the more unique parts of the festival may be the 60 Hour Band Challenge. Musicians who enter the contest will be randomly drafted into new bands. Each band will be given words and phrases, and over the course of—you guessed it—60 hours, they’ll need to prepare a 2-3 song setlist. The bands will face off against each other for a chance to win a spot on the mainstage in addition to special prizes.

On July 23 and 24, head to the mainstage to catch an incredibly stacked lineup of musicians of numerous genres that feature a ton of homegrown talent like psychedelic folk group portal iii, pop rockers Machiko, and progressive rock band the Galactic Cowboy Orchestra. The event starts off at 11 AM Saturday with the winners of the 60 Hour Band Challenge and goes well into the night. Music starts up again the next day at noon!

Designed as a way for musicians to connect with the music business as well as to gather music lovers and artists alike, everyone is welcome to attend the week long festival for free.
