For the second installment in Mixed Blood Theatre’s 12×12 project (exploring 12 neighborhoods and 12 communities through art), we meet in the Phillips neighborhood. This installment features the Subversive Sirens, a synchronized swimming team that promotes equity in swimming, body acceptance, queer visibility, and black liberation. The six-person team has won national competitions in the LGBTQ+ athletics circuit and regularly hosts splashes to invite community members to play in the water with them. Their virtual performance invites us to see their liberation-fueled movement and collaboration.
