TyLie Shider describes his new multimedia docudrama, WHITTIER, as “ensemble drama about a community connected by tragedy.” It reflects on the aftermath of the 2020 murder of George Floyd—specifically, its effects on a community caught in the midst of tragedy during the surreal beginning of the pandemic. Shider’s production explores graffiti, lawn signs, and murals created in protest of the senseless violence committed against Floyd and the community through focus groups and interviews with local faith leaders, small business owners, and neighbors.
