When Gabrielle Civil creates art, one of her goals is to open up space, which shines through in her latest book the deja vu: black dreams and black time. Influenced by the pandemic and uprisings after George Floyd’s murder, Civil created a performance memoir that brings together essay writing, photography, reviews and more. It looks at both the ancestral and the new, as well as Haitian tourist paintings, dance rituals, Black feminist legacies and more. Join in for an evening of her reading and performances where she’ll be joined by other Twin Cities creatives, Douglas Kearney, Miré Regulus, and Sayge Carroll. A reception at Coffee House Press follows. WEDS. 7 PM. Free.
