In 2022, Surly vowed it would suspend the annual tribute to its ink-dark stout until it could sell bottles direct from its flagship brewery in Prospect Park. Good job, Minnesota! With the recent passage of legislation permitting breweries of Surly’s size to sell growlers on site, the gloom reigns again! The daylong celebration includes a nonstop lineup of punk and metal bands and diversions like flash tattoos, screenprinting, and artist meet-and-greets, plus access to the restaurant and pizza hall noshes. Oh, and they’re unbottling a mind-boggling variety of Darkness variants (gingersnap, anyone?) and vintages. Plan alternate transportation to this one, yo!
