Playwright Lauren Yee’s exploration of personal and national history follows a rising rock group trying to make it big in the era of Cambodia’s genocidal Khmer Rouge regime, juxtaposed against the modern-day prosecution of an accused war criminal. The heaviness of the subject matter is balanced with a vibrant song score featuring classic 1960s Cambodian rock songs and music by Bay Area psychedelic pop superstars Dengue Fever. Directed by Lily Tung Crystal and starring Minnesota pop icon Mayda Miller, this collaboration between Theater Mu and Jungle Theater digs into chapters of music and world history that are too little known by American audiences. Various Dates. $5-90.
