The Cedar Commissions

The indispensable Cedar’s Commission series, now in its eleventh year, seeks to identify and highlight new works from emerging composers, providing funding and performance opportunities to six artists each year (the series names Dessa, Adam Levy, and many more among its graduates). While the 2022 candidates hail from across the country and the world and draw on wildly-ranging influences–from funk to Welsh ballad to Hmong folk song–they are connected by a curiosity about investigating and illuminating the ties between music and identity. The program culminates in a two-evening debut on the Cedar stage, giving three candidates each night the opportunity to share their new works with a live audience. FRI-SAT. $15 for one night, $25 for both.
