The visibility of backyard concerts increased dramatically during the pandemic, but the folks at Grand Oak Opry started hosting top-flight outdoor music performances long before they were a necessity. This week they’re welcoming Minnesota hip-hop superstar Nur-D back under the oaks for a follow-up to his much-loved set from last summer. With a slew of local awards under his belt—including a City Pages award for Best Live Concert—Nur-D has becoming an increasingly large presence on the national stage on the back of jams like ‘Take My Picture’ and ‘Black Wizard Wave’ and anthems like ‘Chicago Ave’ and ‘38th.’ If he continues on this trajectory, you might not get many more chances to catch him in a setting this intimate.
